The 2017 Shamrock Shootout presented by MGM Targets, produced by the Precision Rifle Shooters of Idaho (PRSID) and sanctioned by the National Rifle League (NRL), set the bar. The inaugural match of the NRL was nothing short of spectacular. From the challenging courses of fire engulfed by the natural terrain and beautiful cliffs, to the professional range officers and the positive vibes in the air from the shooters it could not have been a better setting to kick off the 2017 season.
Match directors Jack Wilson and Nate Lauerman did a terrific job in executing 20 different courses of fire including the challenging “Metalocalypse” and “Swingers Party” stages keeping all the competitors on their “A” game.
With 100 competitors vying to see who will be the NRL’s first champion, the competition was fierce, however there could be only one, and that coveted spot went to Mr. Jon Pynch. Jon shot a phenomenal match with Nick Gadarzi and Jake Vibbert close behind in second and third. Other honorable mentions were Regina Milkovich coming in as the top lady, Tim Milkocich for the top LEO, and Fiona York taking home the Sportsmanship Award.
One of the most unique aspects of the NRL was the vibe of the entire event. Even though this was a serious competition it was more like a hundred friends got together for a great weekend of shooting and hanging out. The pressure to perform well was outweighed by the encouragement of your squad to have fun and to “brush off” and learn from your last mistake. The evenings were as much fun when everyone got together for bingo, nachos, and adult beverages.
Sunday night Caracal USA, a Series Platinum sponsor, provided the awards ceremony dinner and beverages. Altogether there was a great prize table provided by some outstanding sponsors and affiliates of the NRL.
With the first match in the books and only 6 more matches before the Championship, the NRL has provided a new perspective on long-range precision shooting competitions and CONX Media is glad to be apart of this new era!
